TAHOE FALLS TRIP in MAY
A Trip to Explore the Tahoe Falls
Bridal Veil, Glen Alpine, Cascade Falls, Eagle Falls
Late May came this year as a rewarding time to view the waterfalls in the South Lake Tahoe area. After loading up the car with camera gear, snacks and mother dear, we headed across Hwy 50 to seek out the pretty wonders.
Bridal Veil Falls along the roadside in Placerville was rushing and called for a quick first stop to snap a shot. These falls are easy to miss on the south side of Hwy 50 with limited space to pull in and park. During summer the falls often fade to a trickle. As of May 2018 the Bridal Veil Falls Picnic Grounds remains closed due to road damages. Lets hope they designate some funds for repair soon as its a lovely place to stop and have a picnic or bring the dogs for a swim.
We continued on to Lake Tahoe's Glen Alpine Falls via the winding narrow Fallen Leaf Road off Hwy 89. Passing traffic often required pulling to the side in restricted spaces. In other words, look ahead, drive slowly and be prepared to pull aside or back up. This is a bumpy, paved ride that some may find uncomfortable but my Subaru Forester was not challenged during the five mile trek.
The lower Glen Alpine falls were close enough to enjoy without a hike so mother got her walker out and enjoyed the rushing waters while I took photos from various angles and played with the tripod and new filters.
Glen Alpine Falls is very textured with diverse channels of water and cascading stairs of water. The falls were liquid lush with recent rain and melting snow.
Water can be so inspiring and refreshing. The sound implores me to let go of the daily stresses and the beauty brings me back to myself. I am so eager in this trip that I nearly forget to eat but tangerines and nuts relieve the hunger as I climb back in the car to head toward the upper falls and trail.
While I gather my camera gear and change to better hiking shoes, mother takes a nap in the shade and I find myself headed down a path that immediately turns into a stream and road pond. Well, the shoes will survive getting wet so I scurry along. Beauty is everywhere. Green abounds. Water flows.
Streams trickle, streams rush, streams cross the path.
My shoes get wetter.
My shoes get wetter.
This beautiful stream challenged a family who turned back while I made my way through the very cold water. Yep, my shoes got wetter. I eventually took a side path off the main road and discovered a glorious meadow which made me wish my sister was along for the hike. I knew I loved what I was seeing so it made me think of other loved ones who would respond as I with awe.
Tahoe Falls trip to be continued....
